Teriyaki Skirt Steak Stir Fry with Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce

Skirt steak on a screaming hot flat top, hit with Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce right at the end, that’s the move. This stir fry builds around bite-sized strips of skirt steak seasoned with Kinder’s The Blend, seared hard over high heat, then pulled into a pan full of charred vegetables and coated in a glossy teriyaki glaze. It comes together in 35 minutes and tastes like you know what you’re doing.

Skirt cooks so fast in a stir fry that it goes in last and comes out almost immediately. Quickest thing in the beef collection.

The key is sequence. Vegetables go first, onion, garlic, broccoli, bell peppers, carrot matchsticks, snap peas, cooked until crisp-tender with light char, then moved to a cooler zone while the steak gets its time over maximum heat. Sear it in a single layer. Don’t touch it until it browns. Flip once. That’s the crust that makes this worth eating.

Once the steak is done, everything comes together and Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce goes in. One to two minutes over heat and the sauce reduces, clings, and turns every piece glossy and rich. That’s the window, too early and the sauce burns, too late and you’re just reheating.

Kinder’s The Blend handles the base seasoning on the meat. Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce finishes it. Two products, focused ingredient list, nothing wasted.

Cut the skirt steak against the grain, always. The grain runs lengthwise along the cut. Slice perpendicular to it. Do this wrong and the meat chews. Do it right and it’s tender even cooked to medium.

Serves 4. Works over white rice on a weeknight, scales up for game day without much extra effort.

Flavor First.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 lb skirt steak, sliced into bite-sized strips against the grain
  • 1 tbsp Kinder’s The Blend Seasoning No Kinder’s? Use instead: a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, dried herbs, and a pinch of salt — combined to replicate the blend
  • 2 cup Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce, plus extra for drizzling No Kinder’s? Use instead: a mixture of soy sauce, brown sugar, fresh ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and a splash of rice vinegar — combined to replicate the blend
  • 4 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 large white onion, sliced
  • 3 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and sliced
  • 1/2 cup carrot matchsticks
  • 1/2 cup snap peas
  • 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced garnish
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds garnish
  • White rice for serving

Equipment

  • Large flat top griddle or wok
  • Spatula and tongs
  • Cutting board and sharp knife
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Serving bowls

Method

  1. Slice the skirt steak into bite-sized strips, cutting against the grain. In a large mixing bowl, toss the steak with 2 tablespoons olive oil and Kinder’s The Blend Seasoning.
  2. Preheat 2 tablespoons olive oil on the flat top griddle over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions and garlic to the flat top and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, and snap peas. Cook for an additional 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until vegetables are crisp-tender with light char. Move vegetables to the cooler zone of the flat top.
  4. Increase heat on the main cooking zone to high. Place the seasoned skirt steak strips onto the flat top in a single layer. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the steak begins to brown on the bottom. Flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  5. Combine the cooked vegetables and steak in the medium-high heat zone. Pour Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce over everything and toss thoroughly to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce reduces slightly and coats the steak and vegetables in a glossy glaze.
  6. Remove from heat and let rest for 10 minutes. Serve over white rice, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Finish with an extra drizzle of Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce.

Notes

  • Cut against the grain — Skirt steak has a visible grain that runs lengthwise. Slice perpendicular to it into bite-sized strips. Miss this and the meat will be tough no matter how well you cook it.
  • High heat, single layer — The steak needs direct contact with a screaming hot surface to build a crust. Crowded meat steams. Work in batches if your pan isn’t large enough.
  • Hold the sauce until the end — Add Kinder’s Teriyaki Cooking Sauce after everything is cooked. A minute or two over residual heat is all it takes to glaze — any longer and the sugar burns.
  • Move the vegetables to a cooler zone — On a flat top, push the veg off the hot spot while the steak sears. On a stovetop, transfer them to a bowl. Either way, crisp-tender vegetables, not mush.
  • Rest before you serve — Let the finished stir fry sit for a full minute off the heat before plating. The sauce thickens and the meat holds its juices better.
  • Meal prep ready — This recipe scales cleanly. Divide into containers over rice right after cooking — it holds in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and the sauce keeps the steak from drying out.
Serving Suggestions
  • Serve over steamed white rice — the grain absorbs the teriyaki glaze and that’s the whole point. Brown rice or cauliflower rice both work if you want to change the base.
  • A drizzle of sriracha or chili oil over the top adds heat without competing with the teriyaki flavor. Crispy wonton strips or fried shallots give you textural contrast against the tender steak and vegetables.
  • For something alongside, miso soup keeps it clean and in register with the flavor profile. A quick cucumber salad with rice vinegar and sesame oil works the same way — light, acidic, cuts through the glaze.
Storage & Reheating
  • Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. The sauce helps keep the steak from drying out.
  • Freezer: Freeze the stir fry without rice for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
  • Stovetop reheat: Warm in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water or extra Kinder’s Teriyaki Sauce to loosen the glaze.
  • Microwave reheat: Heat in 90-second intervals, stirring between each, until hot throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of steak?

Flank steak or sirloin both work. The key is cutting against the grain and cooking over high heat. Skirt steak has great flavor and sears fast, which is why it fits here, but either of those alternatives holds up well.

What if I don’t have a flat top griddle?

A large wok or the biggest skillet you own over high heat gets the same result. Cook the steak in batches so nothing is crowded, crowded meat steams instead of sears.

Can I swap the vegetables?

Yes. Mushrooms, bok choy, edamame, zucchini, and baby corn all work. Aim for a mix, something crunchy, something tender. Keep the cuts similar in size so everything finishes at the same time.

When do I add the teriyaki sauce?

At the very end, after the steak and vegetables are combined and the heat is still high. One to two minutes is all it takes, the sauce reduces, caramelizes, and glazes everything. Any longer and the sugars burn.

Can I make this ahead?

The stir fry holds for 4 days refrigerated. Cook it fresh and portion into containers right away. Reheat in a skillet with a splash of water or extra sauce to revive the glaze.
