This explains what FlavorMade collects when you visit flavormade.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The Short Version
We run an email list, we count visitors, and we let people leave comments and rate recipes. That is close to the whole picture. We do not sell personal information, we do not run ad networks, and nothing goes anywhere beyond the handful of services listed below that make the site work.

What We Collect, and Why
The email list
If you sign up for the newsletter we collect your email address, and your name if you give it. It is held by Kit, the service that sends the newsletter, and it is used to send you recipes. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes you off the list. Kit records ordinary email metrics such as whether a message was opened and which links were clicked.
Comments and recipe ratings
Leaving a comment or rating a recipe stores what you wrote along with your name, your email address, your IP address and your browser’s user agent string. Your email address is not published. The IP address and user agent are kept because that is how spam gets caught. An anonymized version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check for a profile picture; their policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/.
The contact form
The contact form sends what you write to us as an email. It is not stored in a database on this site.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to count visits and see which recipes people actually cook. That tells us pages viewed, where visitors arrived from, approximate location, and device and browser type. We do not use it to work out who individual people are. Google’s policy is at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Server logs
Our host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies
- WordPress sets comment cookies if you leave a comment and choose to save your details, so you do not have to type them again. They last about a year.
- Google Analytics sets cookies that count visits and tell sessions apart.
- Kit sets a cookie when you subscribe, so its forms know not to ask you twice.
- The playlist bar remembers which playlist you picked and whether you collapsed it. That is kept in your own browser’s local storage and is never sent to us.
- Logging in to WordPress sets session cookies. That applies to the people who run the site, not to you.
Clearing cookies in your browser clears all of it.
Embedded Content From Other Sites
Pages here embed content from other services, mainly Spotify playlists and video players. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site directly: it can set its own cookies, collect data about you, and track your interaction with it, and if you are logged in to that service it can tie that activity to your account there. Their policies govern that, not this one.
Who Else Sees Your Data
Only the services that make the site run: Kit for email, Google for analytics and search, our host for hosting, and Gravatar for comment avatars. Each one holds only what its job requires. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not hand it to data brokers.
How Long We Keep It
- Email subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask to be deleted.
- Comments and recipe ratings: until you ask for them to be removed.
- Contact form messages: as long as the email sits in the inbox.
- Analytics and server logs: on the retention schedules of Google and our host.
Your Rights
Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold on you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to holler@flavormade.com and say what you want. We will not make you jump through hoops for it.
If you live in California, the CCPA gives you those rights explicitly, along with the right to know what categories of personal information were collected about you and the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of them. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that count.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the GDPR gives you the same rights plus the right to object to processing and the right to complain to your data protection authority. Our lawful basis is your consent for the email list, and legitimate interest for analytics, comments and security logging.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and it will be deleted.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS on managed WordPress hosting, and administrative access is limited to the people who run it. No website can promise perfect security and this one will not pretend otherwise.
Changes to This Policy
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it and the date below moves. Anything material gets called out at the top rather than buried.
